About Mary Kurtz

Kitchen Design with European Flair

Since 1991, Mary Kurtz has worked with savvy Washington, DC area homeowners to create kitchens that are both striking in appearance and functional in design. Always fascinated by ‘kitchenalia’, a term from a British antique furniture guide meaning, “things of the kitchen”, Mary was born to design kitchens, and that passion is clear in her attention to detail, innate ability to combine elements in creative ways and her ease in communicating with clients. She is, as one client put it, “A dream to work with.”

Mary has traveled and lived abroad in Africa, Europe and the Arabian Gulf, and she brings that depth, experience and inspiration to her designs. While living in Sarajevo, she designed fifteen kitchens for the American embassy personnel including the Ambassador’s residence. While living in Europe,  she reported on an international trade show in Cologne, Germany for the industry trade journal, ‘Kitchen and Bath Design News.’

Mary is a Certified Kitchen Designer, president of Mary Kurtz Kitchens, LLC and a member of the National Kitchen and Bath Association. In a previous life she was a Peace Corps volunteer in Botswana, worked at The New Republic Magazine, taught English in Nigeria and raised two children.  Mary loves to cook, golf, and spend time with her family.
